The Photoshop Disasters blog is hilarious… it’s amazing how much of this kind of stuff actually gets published – supposedly after having been reviewed by some sort of editor. But hey, I’m not complaining, it sure makes for some entertaining reading material! Check it out, especially if you do any work with Photoshop, you’ll enjoy [...]
It seems I may have frontal brain damage. Before I explain why, try the following. In the following picture, can you move a single matchstick to form a valid mathematical equation? No sticks can be discarded, an isolated slanted stick cannot be interpreted as I (one), and a V (five) symbol must always be composed [...]
Ok, so today was a fairly exciting day if you’re a gadget fan and/or music lover. As expected, Steve Jobs presented a bunch of exciting new products and services at Apple’s “The Beat Goes On” event. Most noteworthy is probably the iPod Touch. It’s a geek’s dream come true. The only bummer is that the [...]
This is a few days old but quite hilarious… Why is one fifth of Americans not able to locate the USA on a map? Miss South Carolina seems to think we need more maps. And South Africa, and Iraq, such as. Or something.
Spent another fun weekend in Sin City… As usual, sleep was a very scarce commodity. And as usual, club Tao didn’t disappoint. You know you had fun when it’s daylight by the time you leave…
Phew! I guess my love for chess is not all that geeky after all. It’s good to see events like the Hip-Hop, Chess and Life Strategies: II Exhibition being put together by the Hip Hop Chess Federation. While Hip Hop in its current form can be criticized for various shortcomings, I still believe that anything [...]
Had a nice and relaxed Easter weekend with friends… I treated myself to a new fairway wood, TaylorMade’s fantastic V Steel 15 degree 3 wood. I had a chance to enjoy it out on the gorgeous Oak Quarry golf club in Riverside. The course has lots of spectacular holes set among huge walls of granite, [...]
You can get a lot of wonderful bargains at Amazon.com. Check out this paperweight, for example. It goes for a measly $999,999.00. Quite the deal. I’m also tempted to buy the house number “9”, for just $999.00 (down from its initial price, $254,623 – with that kind of markdown, this is a must have!) My [...]
It’s a good day for math geeks- today is Pi Day. You know – 3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841971693993…. and so forth. Go figure.
This guy has a hilarious post about his first experience with Second Life: Yesterday I downloaded something called Second Life. It is like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, except you can’t shoot anyone, and you can’t hit people. You just walk around. There are no prostitutes, and everything costs real money, and you can’t rob [...]
Google’s Year-End Zeitgeist is always interesting and often surprising. Who would’ve thought that bebo was going to be the most searched-for term in 2006? Maybe I’m behind the times, but I didn’t even know bebo until now… Seems like it’s another social networking site à la MySpace. Anyways, go check it out, there’s some interesting [...]
Part of the reason why I love chess is the amazing complexity of the game. As David Shenk explains in his fabulous book The Immortal Game: After the first round of moves (meaning, white makes its first move and black responds with its first move), there are 400 possible board positions, as white has twenty [...]
I’ve been hearing a lot about Linden Lab’s virtual online society Second Life lately, but I never really bothered to check it out. Well, today I had my first taste of it, when an interactive advertising agency we wanted to interview decided to give us their pitch in their virtual meeting room. After being shown [...]
I was in Monterey on Sunday/Monday to take a business partner out on the incredible Links At Spanish Bay golf course. It doesn’t get much better than this. The course is gorgeous, perfectly manicured with ocean views on most of the holes. It is brutally difficult though – we sure got our money’s worth…
Man, I can’t believe it’s Thanksgiving again. This year has gone by way too fast… But then again – woohoo, it’s Thanksgiving!! Food, food, and more food. Yum. And a four day weekend. Oh, and of course Black Friday is here again! I’m sure I’ll find something or other.
