Digital Fortress

Posted on Sunday 11 June 2006

OK, so after finishing Dan Brown’s Deception Point last week on the plane ride back to California, I figured I’d also give Digital Fortress a shot, the only Dan Brown book left that I hadn’t read. I finished it today and I must say it’s by far his worst book. It really sucked. The last 20 pages, which presumably should be the grand finale, were just plain annoying. There’s a room full of supposedly highly intelligent NSA cryptographers trying to figure out a pass code they need to stop a computer worm from wreaking havoc on US intelligence data. Of course, they only have about 15 minutes left to do so. Well, you can tell it’s a bad story when you already know the answer to the question the characters in the book are trying to solve 20 pages before they figure it out themselves. No suspense whatsoever.
