Day three of the Alito hearings focused on his supposed membership in a Princeton University organization called the “Concerned Alumni of Princeton”, a group that protested the integration of minorities and women into the Princeton student body in the early 1970s. Alito claims he doesn’t remember belonging to the group, but as Senator Edward Kennedy remarked,
“It’s extraordinary that he can remember all 67 of his (appellate court) dissents, but he can’t remember anything about his membership in this organization. So, there’s the obvious question why this nominee selected an organization that endorsed discrimination against blacks, women and gays and put it with pride on his application.”
The Mercury News article states:
Many Republicans hope that a coalition of Alito, 55, and other conservatives judges will overturn Roe v. Wade and push forth rulings on religion, affirmative action and states’ rights that they support.
Scary times.
Oh, and of course the media focused mainly on Mrs. Alito’s crocodile tears.
